Sarge's Seniors Cats for Senior Citizens

According to The Humane Society of the United States, "Because many Americans are living longer lives these days, sometimes elderly people find themselves living alone because they have outlived loved ones, or because they live far from any family. There is a way, however, for the elderly to find new meaning in their lives, and to redefine what it means to be 'young at heart.'…by adopting a pet companion." The article goes on to say that (The senior citizen) may want to consider adopting an older cat, rather than a kitten. Older pets are more likely to be calm, already housetrained, and less susceptible to unpredictable behavior.

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation agrees with The Humane Society of the United States. SARF offers senior citizens over 60 years of age an opportunity to provide a loving home to a homeless animal by adopting an adult cat at no initial cost to the senior.

Sarge's foster cats are feline leukemia tested, receive their FVRCP and rabies shots and have been spayed or neutered. Prior to that surgery blood work is done to indicate any pending health concerns.

Sarge's will refer to the senior adopters the names of groups in the county that offer pet food to seniors on low incomes. Sarge's will also refer the adopters to rabies clinics where their new cat can get its annual shot for a very reasonable fee.

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's Senior Cats for Senior Citizens program is supported by Banfield Charitable Trust and the Purina Pets for People Program. Please call Nancy at 828-926-9579 for more information!
