Saturday, Oct. 14 was a special day for Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation at Springdale Country Club and Resort.

Thanks to Eunice Tingle's efforts to recruit golfers for the day and encourage donations from Springdale members, she was able to donate $2,700 to Sarge's. This money will be added to the fund that will enable Sarge's to buy land on which to build an adoption center for animals taken from the Haywood County Animal Shelter.

Animals rescued from the county facility are currently being placed in foster homes until they can be adopted.

Tingle and her family have two rescued dogs, a black Lab named "Sam", and a brindle Boxer Named "Mandy." Mandy has already been in the spotlight by winning in the best trick category at Sarge's first annual Dog Walk in August.

Tingle arranged for the special fund raiser, "Dog's Day of Autumn" at Springdale Country Club and donated the proceeds from all golf played that day to Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation.

Several members of the Springdale Ladies Association, assisted by their canine companions, sold mulligans and monitored two "closest to the pin" contests. Mike Ford, a Springdale member from canton, won the prize for the closest to the pin contest on the third hole.

Tingle was very pleased with the resulting $2,700 added to Sarge's fund to build an adoption center for Haywood County's dogs and cats.

"Springdale is a very animal-friendly place and we want to support Sarge's effort every way we can," she said.

Nancy Bulluck, one of the founding members of Sarge's and a Springdale employee, expressed deep appreciation to Tingle for the successful event.

"We had foster animals in the pro shop, and rescued dogs on the golf course," she said. "It really was "dog's day.' It would be wonderful if other local businesses will invite us for a Sarge Day. It is loads of fun and helps support a great cause."

The mission of Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc. is to save healthy, adoptable dogs and cats from euthanasia in the county animal control facility. If you would like to help Sarge, or if your business would like some ideas for a Sarge Day, call 508-3300 or email info@sargeandfriends.org.
