Girl Scout Cadette Troupe 006 from Bethel has voted to honor Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation by naming Sarge’s its main community service project for 2007. By completing this service project with 40 hours of volunteer work with Sarge’s, the members will receive their Silver Award.

Cadette Troupe 006 is comprised of Allison Cathey, Katie Finegan and Renee Reinman. Their troupe leaders are Doris Cathey and Brenda Reinman.

The Silver Award, which is the highest honor a Cadette can earn, is won by completing 40 hours of volunteer service for 8 different activities of the Cadets’ choice. “Allison, Katie and Renee voted to devote their entire service project to Sarge’s in an effort to help save pets in Haywood County,” said Doris Cathey. Mrs. Cathey went on to say, “the girls were so anxious to begin that two days after we notified Nancy Bulluck of Sarge’s of the project, they volunteered at the Pet Adoption Day held at the WNC Visitor’s Center last Saturday.”

“We are thrilled to have Renee, Katie and Allison on our team. Katie has already suggested that the girls make baskets with pet supplies, toys. leashes, etc as a gift for foster families who take in pets rescued from the Haywood County animal facility,” said Nancy Bulluck.

Renee has been in Girl Scouts in Bethel for the 2 years she has lived in the area. Allison has been a Girl Scout for 10 years and Katie for nine years. .

As younger Scouts, the girls earned their Bronze Award by volunteering at The Open Door in Frog Level. Beginning in October 2007, as senior Scouts, they will be working towards their Gold Award. The Gold Award is equivalent to the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Badge.

Sarge’s Animal Foundation is grateful that Allison, Katie and Renee have chosen to work off their community service hours to help the animals of Haywood County. Sarge’s welcomes volunteers of all ages. For more information about Sarge’s, visit www.sargeandfriends.org or call 828-508-3300.
