Picks Photo Contest Winners

The awards for this year’s pet photo contest, benefiting Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, were presented Saturday at Bocelli’s Italian Eatery, courtesy of owner Ellen Schattie.
“Sarge’s volunteers thank all the people who entered this year’s contest,” said Brenn Rohman, co-chairperson of the event. “Our judges, Beth Brown and Ellen Schattie, had their work cut out for them again this year.”
Awards were given in seven categories, plus the overall Best in Show winner, which won Bobby Ferrell Sr. a photo sitting at Beth Brown Photography in Maggie Valley, plus the prizes given to all first-place winners.
First-place winners each received a Sarge’s monogrammed tote bag, donated by Laura and John Wooley, each one filled with pet-appropriate treats and a gift certificate from Bocelli’s.
“Laura and John moved their embroidery and screen printing business to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., last year, but they still donate monogramming and other support for Sarge’s,” said Sarge’s spokesperson Cynthia Morris. Some pet toys were donated by Ray Fulp, of The Dog House.
Second place winners received a gift certificate from Bocelli’s and an award certificate.
