Sign Up Your Team for 5th Annual Downtown Dog Walk

For the first time, Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation invites teams as well as individuals to sign up for the 5th Annual Downtown Waynesville Dog Walk on August 7, 2010. Pledge sheets accompany registration forms and prizes will be awarded for the most money collected by a team and by an individual. There will also be a prize for the runner-up in each category.

Registration forms are at The Dog House located at 304 N. Haywood Street in Waynesville, Sarge's office at 1659 S. Main in West Waynesville, Veterinarian offices in Waynesville, Clyde and Canton and online at www.sargeandfriends.org.

As in the past, walkers will meet at the Haywood County Court House lawn and begin walking at 10:00am. The route will be from Depot Street to Montgomery Street to Church Street and then returning down Main Street back to the Court House. Darryl and Kirk Wall will lead the parade with their "Thundering Herd" consisting of Siberian Huskies Natasha, Rusty, Kiska, Kodiak, Qannik and Cheoah.

Contests for registered dogs and their owners who walked will be held upon return to the Court House. The contests, emceed by Jeanne Naber, will be Best Dressed, Best Tail Wagger, Best Trick and Owner-Dog Look Alike.

"Sarge's is very happy to announce that the two judges for the contests are Brian Hatfield, afternoon host of 99.9Kiss Country radio, and Larry Blunt, News Anchor at WLOS-TV," said Cynthia Morris, Dog Walk committee member. "Both judges will bring their dogs and walk with the crowd."

"The first sponsors to sign up for the Dog Walk are The Mountaineer, Clear Channel Radio, owners of AM1400 The Peak, 99.9Kiss Country and Rock 104.9, W. T. Hackney Co, Pepsi Cola Bottlers of Asheville, Smoky Mountain Sub Shop, Country Lane Animal Hospital, Balsam Animal Hospital, Duke's Pampered Pets, Maggie Valley Dental Care, Mast General Store, Smoky Mountain Dentistry, Patton Morgan & Clark and several individuals in the community," said Rosa Allomong, Fundraising Chairperson. "We are actively seeking more sponsors to show support of the Dog Walk and to have their names printed on the back of the official 5th Annual Downtown Dog Walk tee shirt. Sponsors receive up to 3 free tee shirts and free dog walk registration for one dog."

"Although we will release more information soon for the walkers, we want to encourage people who want to walk their dog(s) or to round up a team to walk their dogs to pick up a registration form soon so that they can begin collecting pledges to win the big prize," said Jamie Powell, publicity chairperson.
