109 Animals Adopted Through Sarge's Home for the Holidays Promotion
Press Release 1/8/10
Cynthia Morris
One hundred and nine stockings were hanging on the Haywood County Animal
Shelter wall when the agency closed at 4 pm Sunday, January 3rd. These stockings
represented the 109 dogs and cats that were adopted during the Home for the Holidays
Adoption Promotion that began November 23rd and ended January 3rd. This event kicked off on November 23rd with the hanging of the "Home for the Holidays" wreath by
Commissioners Mark Swanger and Charles "Skeeter" Curtis. Many wonderful dogs and cats found their forever homes during this event sponsored by Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation and Aidan's Fund.
According to Sarge's Board Member, Connie Hewitt, "Sarge's would like to make this
a permanent event. With the help of Sarge's volunteers and the Animal Control Director,
Jean Hazzard, and her staff, we were able to adopt out a greater number of animals
than normal during this time period. We are also grateful to the community for opening their homes and hearts to adopt a shelter pet. We hope everyone continues to check out the shelter when looking for a new pet as they keep on coming in all year long."
