SIT FOR SARGE
Press Release
Cynthia Morris
In conjunction with the October 27 Variety Show and Silent Auction Benefit at the HART Performing Arts Center, local artists
are painting household stools which will be included in the silent auction. Proceeds from the Variety Show and auction will benefit Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
Wilma Marrow, owner of DeJa View Gallery in downtown Waynesville, is spearheading the fundraiser for Sarge’s. “The artists and merchants that I have contacted have not hesitated to participate,” said Marrow. “In fact they have all been very enthusiastic.”
Rosa Allomong, Sarge’s Board Vice President, said, “The artists are working on three types of stools. We are offering decorated café stools, children’s stools (made by Bob Coughlin of Maggie Valley), and stools with a back rest. Dodi Lovett is painting her stool with a back rest in the likeness of her Springer Spaniel, Chadwick.
As the painted and decorated stools are completed they will be displayed in Waynesville at Twigs & Leaves, The Jeweler’s Workbench, Outer Spaces Gallery, DeJa View Gallery, Osondu Booksellers and Blue Ridge Books & News. Bids can be made at any time after the stools are in the stores. “We hope,” said Marrow “ to expand the display next year into Canton, Clyde, Sylva, Bethel and other county wide businesses. We want to make it easier for folks to make bids on the stools in advance of the Silent Auction in October. We encourage merchants who are interested in displaying the stools next year to contact me or Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.”
