Press Release 8/28/09

On Wednesday, September 2 and Thursday, September 3 from 10:00am-4:00pm dogs and cats presently at the Haywood County Animal Shelter will be available for adoption with special lower than normal adoption fees.
The animal shelter will be closed from Saturday, September 5 through Wednesday, September 9. "The temporary closure of the shelter is to allow County Facilities and Maintenance staff to seal the floor in the shelter," said Animal Control Director Jean Hazzard. "The sealant is required by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Animal Welfare/Veterinary Division."
"Because the animals must be removed from the shelter, Sarge's Animal Rescue foundation is sponsoring the two additional adoptions and picking up a large portion of the adoption fees," said Connie Hewitt, Sarge Board Member.

Adoption fee for dogs is $60 and covers the spay/neuter and rabies shots. All dogs have been wormed and have already received their parvo and bordatella shots.
Cats adoption fee is $27.50 for males and $37.50 for females. This fee includes the spay/neuter and rabies shot.
"There are many great dogs and cats and innocent puppies and kittens looking for a chance at life, "said Hewitt. Sarge's volunteers, who are knowledgeable about the animals, will be on hand during these events to help would-be adopters.
The animal shelter is located at 245 Hemlock Street in west Waynesville. For more information, call Sarge's at 246-9050.
