Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation will be holding a special adoption on Sunday, April 26, from 2:00pm-5:00pm at Sarge's headquarters at 1659 S. Main Street in West Waynesville (next to Mountain 1st Bank).

Citizens over 60 years of age will be able to adopt a cat 5 years of age and older with no adoption fee.

"The cats available for adoption have been rescued from euthanasia and will make wonderful companions for seniors," said Nancy Rhoades, coordinator of the program. "Since I have several of my own, I know from experience that owning an adult cat can help to keep down stress levels and depression," Rhoades continued.

The cats are feline leukemia tested, receive their FVRCP and rabies shots and have been spayed or neutered. All senior cats will be given a simple blood panel test to determine the probability of diabetes and kidney or liver disease, the most common cause of illnesses in older cats.

Sarge's will refer to the senior adopters the names of groups in the county that offer pet food to seniors on low incomes. Sarge's will also refer adopters to rabies clinics where their new cat can get its annual shot for a very reasonable fee.
