Sarge's membership names new Board Members

Brenda West, Jim Ray and Kristin Moro-Coleman were elected as new Board members for Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation at its annual meeting on January 29, 2009. Brandon Anderson, Barbara Buck and Steve Hewitt were named to fill unexpired terms of former members and Nancy Bulluck and Herb Trenka were re-elected to the Board.

Doyle Teague, out-going Board president, discussed "Where We Came From" regarding Sarge's reason for existence and Rosa Allomong presented the short, medium and long-terms goals for Sarge's as developed by the Planning committee. "Ultimately it will take the efforts of HAWA's spay/neuter program to reduce the intake of animals coming into the shelter, as well as Sarge's efforts in getting animals out of the shelter and into suitable homes, to reach the goal of a 10% euthanasia rate in five years." said Allomong."

Nancy Rhoades, retiring Treasurer, gave her report and Barbara Buck, Fundraising Chairperson, outlined upcoming events in 2009. The events include a ribbon cutting ceremony in conjunction with the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce at the new office space at 1659 S. Main Street in Waynesville, Valentine's Day cookie event at two Subway locations, Photo Contest in May, June 14th Dogs Day at the Maggie Valley Club, the annual Dog Walk on August 8 and the holiday gift wrapping at Mast General Store.

Dr. Tami Shearer of Shearer Pet Health in Dillsboro spoke to the membership about her practice where she treats animals with disabilities and terminal illnesses. Shearer uses interactive concepts to pet health utilizing rehabilitation therapy, pain management tools and assistive devices.
