COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTES TO SARF 1st ANNUAL DOWNTOWN DOGWALK
Press Release

Despite a few rain showers, Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's 1st Annual Downtown Dogwalk on Saturday, August 12, was a resounding success. SARF is now $22,000 closer to building its no-kill animal shelter and the festivities helped to raise our community's awareness of SARF's mission to end euthanasia of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in Haywood County. Many local businesses sponsored the Dogwalk and were listed on the back of the official t-shirts.

There were 170 registered dogs who, with their walkers, and help from the Waynesville Police, took the three block stroll from the Courthouse lawn up Montgomery Street and back down Main Street to the Courthouse where there were contests and games for the dogs and prize raffles for the people.

Wheels Through Times Transportation and Educational museum in Maggie Valley shared with SARF the money realized from selling raffle tickets on Saturday for the November 11th drawing for a restored 1951 Panhead motorcycle.

Tom Doyle from Leicester had the winning raffle ticket for the beautiful, handmade dog motif quilt while Nancy Rhoades won the raffle for a year's trash pickup from M&D Garbage Company.

Of the many doggie contests, Lou Buchannan with Annie won the kissing contest and Eunice Tingle with Mandy won the best trick. The celebrity judges were Kirk Kirkpatrick from Waynesville and Tammy Watford from WLOS-TV.

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation will have dogs and cats available for adoption Friday and Saturday from 12n-4pm, August 18 and August 19 at the Maggie Valley Moonlight Race .
