During the Haywood County Animal Shelter Open House on December 6, Tuscola honors art program student, Courtney Boessel, was recognized for her design of the new Adopt a Shelter Pet sign erected at 152 Hemlock Street in West Waynesville.

The sign was donated by Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation. Thom Bandy of Foothills Signs made the sign and installed it.

During the Open House five (5) dogs and four (4) cats were adopted with two (2) more adoptions pending for the next day. Animals were also available for adoption at Sarge's headquarters two blocks from the shelter. Eight (8) dogs, puppies and/or cats were adopted from there.

"Sarge's new office's proximity to the shelter allows adopters to easily check out the Sarge fosters and also the available dogs and cats at the shelter as they are within two blocks of each other," said Connie Hewitt, Open House coordinator and Board member. "Beginning January 3, 2009, pet adoptions will be held every Saturday at Sarge's new headquarters located at 1659 S. Main Street," continued Hewitt, "A Sarge volunteer should also be at the shelter to help those checking out that location for their new best friend."
