On Saturday, December 6, Jean Hazzard, Director of the Haywood County Animal Shelter, and Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation are hosting an open house/adoption day from 10:00am-3:00pm at 245 Hemlock Street in Hazelwood/Waynesville. In conjunction with the shelter adoption, dogs and cats will also be available only two blocks away at Sarge's new office space located at1659 S. Main Street in West Waynesville.
The shelter's first open house on November 15 resulted in the adoption of four (4) dogs and four (4) cats. "In addition, people put their names on waiting lists for four stray (4) dogs/puppies that are being held for their owners to claim them. In the event the dogs are not claimed, the waiting list people will be notified to come in to fill out the adoption forms and take home their new pet." said Connie Hewitt, event organizer. Two more of the dogs were taken into a Sarge's foster home and will be available for adoption at the next Sarge foster adoption day.
The WLOS-TV, Channel 13, news staff was at the shelter to cover the open house," continued Hewitt, "and we hope that more people in Haywood County learned about the shelter from that report." The Petfinder.com website was listed as a link on the television station's website.
