Sarge's announces series of adoption days
Special to The Mountaineer

Seven pet adoptions have been planned for four locations in the area by Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation (SARF), an organization with a mission to save healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in the Haywood County Animal Control facility from euthanasia.

The first two will be on Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19 during the 28th Annual Maggie Valley Moonlight race and Health, Fitness and Outdoor Expo with adoptable animals and supportive printed material.

The next three adoption days will be Saturday, Sept. 2, Oct. 7, and Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These three "Adoptions with a Heart" events will be held next to the cree k at the Heart of the Valley Motel on Soco Road behind the Stomping Grounds. Geri, Cassie and Bob Ruhlman have volunteered space for these three SARF events.

The Ruhlmans are members of SARF in Haywood County and animal rescue organizations in Ohio and Florida. They already have rescued four German shepherd dogs (Luke, Marley, Bourbon and Pearl), a dachshund (Taffy) and six rabbits.

Two other SARF adoption days are scheduled for Oct. 21 at the Apple Festival in downtown Waynesville and Oct. 28 at the Maggie Valley Arts and Crafts festival.

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation rescues adoptable animals from the county Animal Control facility by placing them in foster homes until they can be adopted, or by transferring them to certified breed-rescue groups. SARF is in the process, through fund raising efforts and donations, of attempting to build a center where animals will receive care until they can be placed with families.
