Sarge's Dog Walk Dedicated to Dr. Landon D. McGary DDS

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's Downtown Dog Walk on Saturday, August 9, was dedicated to Dr. Landon McGary. McGary's wife, Angela, and son, Aidan, carried the Sarge banner to lead to the dog walk.

There were dogs and dogs and dogs participating in the 3rd Annual Dog Walk. In fact, there were 223 registered walkers and some walkers brought more than one dog. With their sound system set up on the Court House lawn, Jennifer and Chris Allen kept the day's events moving at a fast pace.

The winner of the prize basket for the most donations collected was Mel Brace. He presented Sarge's with a check for $1410.

Jeanne Naber, the contest emcee, worked very hard as the contests had as many as twenty (20) participants The winner of the Best Kisser contest was Chidley who smooched all over the face of Chris Sabo. Best Tail Wagger was Buddy who belongs to Bob Nowakowski. Best trick winner was Nikita who danced elegantly with Margo Gray. The judges, Jackee Brown and Tammy Watford, needed help in the Best Dressed contest. They had a tie vote for the very Parisian looking Belle, belonging to Jonathan Mulholland and Denali, Jed Lambert's well attired Pyrenees. The crowd had to make the choice with their applause and Denali won. All winners received prize baskets whose contents were donated by local merchants.

Beth of Beth Brown Photography set up a booth and took photos of the walkers and their dogs for a $5.00 donation to Sarge's. Brown raised approximately $300 in donations. Garlic Knots Pizzeria provided pizza slices to the walkers for donations which totaled $150.

Fifi's Fine Resale Apparel, Burr Studio, Nick and Nates Pizzeria, Bogart's Restaurant and Tavern and Pet Pockets provided door prizes. Multiple tickets were placed in the registered walkers goody bags and drawings were made during the contests. Winners were Paula Cotton, Tom Donavan, Jane Finneran, and Susan Melvin.

"Thanks to Sarge's wonderful supporters who brought their dogs on Saturday" said Nancy Bulluck co-chairperson of the event," preliminary figures show that Sarge's will be able to add over $20,000 to its fund to build an adoption center in Haywood County."
