New Members Elected to Sarge’s Board of Directors
by Cynthia Morris
At a recent meeting, Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation has elected four new members for its Board of Directors.
The new members are Angela McGary, Connie Hewitt and JoEtta Newman.
Angela began fostering animals that Sarge’s volunteers rescued from the Haywood County Animal Facility in 2006. Angela said, “I hit the ground running. I became involved in Breed Rescue, then the dog selection committee. Now I’m a new board member and I’m the chairperson for the Foster Care Committee.” “Being a stay-at-home mom,” said McGary, “has made my schedule flexible enough to volunteer in these areas. I am a hands-on person who loves working closely with the animals.” McGary, her husband, a dentist in Maggie Valley, and son live in Clyde.

Connie Hewitt divides her time between Waynesville and Indianapolis. She is also on the HAWA Board. “I’ve done adoption counseling at the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control for 5 years,” said Hewitt. “I have 2 rescued dogs and 3 rescued cats,” she said, “and one ‘rescued’ husband.”
JoEtta Newman is a registered veterinary technician who has many years of veterinary clinic experience including REACH, Humane Alliance Spay-Neuter Clinic and private practices. JoEtta said, “I’m very active with NC Search and Rescue Dogs Association as well. I have a wired-haired dachshund, Ryder, and a Petite Bassett griffon Vendeen or PBGV, that have had search training. For Sarge’s, she serves on the medical subcommittee of the Foster Care Committee. JoEtta lives in Maggie Valley.
