Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's volunteers saved twenty four (24) animals from being euthanized this week and adopted out six (6) foster animals.

During the Whole Bloomin' Festival in Frog Level on Saturday, May 10, five (5) of Sarge's foster dogs and one (1) foster cat were adopted. Donna Lindsey got permission from Jean Hazzard at the Haywood County Animal control facility to bring some of its animals to the festival as well. Nine (9) of the shelter dogs were adopted and two (2) cats. The foster animals were held in the WNC Visitors Center and the shelter animals had a spot of their own outside.

Sarge's "Dixie Dog Express," (created by Donna Lindsey) transported thirteen (13) dogs to New England's Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society. Herb Trenka and Doyle Teague drove the dogs overnight, non-stop (except for when the Sarge van broke down!) on the 1900 mile round trip. "The dogs never woke up while the van was being repaired," said Trenka.

Lindsey took another seventeen (17) dogs to the Animal Compassion Network's Adoptathon at PetSmart in Arden on May 3rd and 4th. "Thirteen (13) of the dogs were adopted there," said Lindsey, "and the folks at ACN took the other four (4) back to their facility in Asheville." "Many of Sarge's volunteers spent their weekend helping with the adoptions," continued Lindsey, " and it paid off for the animals that were saved."
