Maggie (formerly Delilah) was adopted by Jean and Kevin on 10/17/09. Jean sent us this heartwarming update in December, 2011:
"Merry Christmas to Everyone at Sarge's,
My name is Jean Batten. My husband, Kevin, and I adopted Delilah, who we renamed Maggie in October, 2009.
I thought you may be interested in knowing how far she has progressed. Anyone, who may remember her, knows that she was a stray that had been severely
abused. She was absolutely afraid of everybody and everything. Through love, patience, and positive encouragement,
Maggie has become the most wonderful, loving, intelligent, funny and positive addition to our family!! She is an obedient, gentle, well-behaved
sweetheart, who inspires everybody. Everyone who meets her instantly falls in love!
Maggie and I recently passed the Delta Society Pet Therapy test. She is a wonderful Pet Therapy dog and brings many smiles to those she helps. Soon, Maggie and I will further our abilities to reach out to help others. Maggie will be a registered READ Dog, who will help children with reading difficulties, become adept and confident in this area.
Maggie is also able to identify 8 colors,(It isn't true that dogs are color blind; they are able to see shades of color. :) identify the letters in her name, basic geometric shapes, words/phrases, and numbers by touching the correct answer with her nose.
Maggie is a true gift from God and we will forever be indebted to Sarge's for sparing her life. We love her more than words could ever express. Maggie has gone from tragedy to triumph.
Many, many thanks and warm regards,
Jean and Kevin Batten"
