Happy Tails: Jericho

Jericho was adopted by Loyal Litewski on 4/10/10. Jericho sent us an update:
"I am happy to tell you that I am adjusting well in my new home. After checking out the van and getting a treat, I slept most of the way home. When we arrived I didn't know where I was, so I didn't want to get out of the van. After I decided it was O.K., we went into the back yard which is big and fenced in. I checked the whole fence looking for a way out, but there was none. I no longer check the fence. When they wanted me to go into the house, I didn't want to go, so my new Mom just sat on the stairs and waited for me to decide it was O.K. When I got in I was a little unsettled and paced some, but soon settled down. My Mom called our neighbor Marcie and asked her if she and Maddie would like to take a walk with us. Maddie is a German Shepherd and very nice. We get along really well. She let me check her out and then we walked for 45 minutes. When I got back home I had my supper but didn't want any water. After that walk they thought I should drink some water, but I just didn't want any. I did drink some water before I went to bed. I spent that evening sleeping in the living room very relaxed while they read and watched TV. Every morning I walk with Dad and Mom and every evening we go for a walk with Mom, Maddie and Marcie.

I have a large crate that belonged to a Great Dane, so I have lots of room to stretch out when I sleep. My crate is in the master bedroom so I am not alone at night. The first night my Mom didn't sleep very well. She was concerned that I would be O.K. Dad and I slept well, we let her stay awake and worry. I really don't like going into the crate, but once I am there I am fine. I am only there at night and if they need to go somewhere. By the way, Mom sleeps much better now.

Yesterday I went to see Dr. Kevin, my new vet. I really liked him. He sat on the floor with me when he examined me. I was very good. I just stood and sat by him very nicely. He said I was a very calm dog and very healthy. I weighed 46 lbs and will probably gain a little more weight, but he doesn't want me to gain too fast. We discussed how much food I should eat every day. As you know, I have no problem eating. I am starting my Heartgard and Advantix. They all thought I was a very special dog. They also discussed my chewing on things. I don't do it often but I have been caught a couple times. Dr. Kevin told us to get some special kind of bones he likes for dogs and I am going to get some more chew toys. It isn't a big problem and I am learning what a simple NO means.

So as you can see, I am adjusting well and I am very happy in my new home. My new parents love me and are taking very good care of me. On Sunday they had to leave me a couple times for church and a wake, but I did well. I knew they were coming back home to me. I have had no accidents since I arrived. Thank you for finding me a new home where I am loved."
